Jennie Headlines Roskilde Festival 2026 as K-Pop Breaks Into Denmark's Top-Tier Lineup

ROSKILDE, DENMARK | May 1, 2025 | For the first time in the festival's history, a K-pop act is headlining a top-tier slot at Roskilde Festival. The announcement came Thursday as the independent, non-profit event revealed the final 20 acts completing its 2026 music lineup, with South Korean solo artist Jennie placed at the top of the addition.

Roskilde Festival, which has run continuously since 1971 and draws around 130,000 attendees each summer, is widely regarded as Northern Europe's largest and most culturally ambitious music event. According to Rolling Stone, it has long operated as a barometer for where European festival culture is heading, known for booking artists well ahead of mainstream recognition. The festival is fully owned by a charitable foundation, with proceeds directed toward humanitarian and cultural causes.

Jennie Brings Her Ruby Era to Roskilde Festival's Main Stage

Jennie rose to global prominence as a member of BLACKPINK before releasing her debut solo album, Ruby, in 2025. Her Roskilde appearance will feature a full ensemble of dancers alongside what the festival described as her "energetic and razor-sharp pop sound." Thomas Sønderby Jepsen, Roskilde Festival's Head of Music, framed the booking as a deliberate statement about the current state of pop. "She is at the very centre of the global rise of K-pop, which is now, for the first time, moving into the top tier of a Danish festival lineup," Jepsen said. "The addition of Jennie reinforces what Roskilde Festival is, and is meant to be: a festival that reflects the present tendencies while pointing towards the future."

The 20 new names also include American rapper Ken Carson, a figure in the rage rap scene known for distorted vocals and punk-influenced production; soul singer Jalen Ngonda; rapper BIA; alternative rock duo Panda Bear and Sonic Boom; and Danish rap veterans Malk de Koijn. The additions bring geographic representation from Greenland, Palestine, and Ukraine through acts Tarrak, techno producer Sama' Abdulhadi, and the duo Heinali and Andriana-Yaroslava.

Roskilde Festival 2026 Spans 37 Countries Across 177 Acts

The complete music programme now stands at 177 acts from 37 countries, joined on the bill by previously announced headliners The Cure, Gorillaz, Zara Larsson, Addison Rae, Clipse, and David Byrne. Also confirmed earlier were Kneecap, Lily Allen, Little Simz, Wolf Alice, Ethel Cain, Audrey Nuna, and Lykke Li. Jepsen noted a marked increase in artists performing in their native languages and a heavier concentration of electronic music and live-focused performances. "I would strongly encourage everyone to explore the programme with curiosity," he said.

Beyond music, the 2026 edition presents more than 90 art and activism programmes, including installations, talks, and performances drawn from over 30 countries. The festival's new on-site cinema will screen Oscar-winning films alongside late-night horror and documentary programming. The global Piece for Peace Movement will create large-scale graffiti works across the festival grounds, while Jamaican collective 1Guh Watch brings dancehall workshops into the programme's first days. Performance group Feerne will move through the site with what the festival described as a "glittering, grotesque queer fairy universe." Roskilde Festival's Director of Art, Signe Brink Wehl, said the 2026 art programme reflects a broader shift in contemporary practice. "There is a playful and optimistic approach, even when addressing serious themes," Wehl said. Participants can also expect roller disco, a visit from Denmark's national skateboarding team, and sustainability workshops with Greenpeace and the Nordic Climate Justice Coalition.

The full schedule is now available, allowing attendees to map concerts and events across stages and days. Roskilde Festival runs June 27 through July 4 in Roskilde, Denmark. Full-access tickets are priced at DKK 2,600, approximately 348 euros including fees, according to the festival.

Jennie's appearance signals something that festival programmers across Europe have been anticipating: K-pop's formal integration into the upper tier of Western festival lineups, not as a novelty slot but as a main-stage headliner. Whether that holds as a broader industry shift will become clearer as other major festivals announce their 2026 rosters in the coming weeks.
