Marlon Wayans Becomes "The Architect of Heat" in SNIPES Holiday Campaign

A subway car swaps everyone's outfits partway through the ride. A small act of kindness cracks open a glowing portal. Marlon Wayans is waiting on the other side.

That is the setup for "Wrapped in Heat," the holiday campaign SNIPES US introduced on November 6 from its Philadelphia headquarters. The retailer describes the film as a surreal, cinematic take on holiday shopping.

SNIPES is not a new name in sneaker retail, but its American arm is a young one. The chain was founded in 1998 and based in Cologne, Germany, according to Sporting Goods Intelligence. It entered the U.S. in 2019 by acquiring KicksUSA, and the company's own history says it now operates more than 300 stores across the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest, with its headquarters in Philadelphia. The brand says the audience for this campaign is Gen Z. SgieuropeSNIPES

Marlon Wayans Plays "The Architect of Heat" Across a Puffer World and a Moving Subway

In the film, Wayans plays "The Architect of Heat," a character SNIPES describes as a slick, street savvy guide. His role is to turn that act of kindness into the portal that drops viewers into the SNIPES holiday world.

From there, the spot moves between set pieces. There is the subway with its shape shifting outfits, a towering "puffer world," and dreamscapes packed with sneakers. Trade outlet MediaPost described the visuals as puffer jackets turning into skyscrapers and sneaker boxes turning into playgrounds. MediaPost Publications

SNIPES frames the film as a cinematic version of the shopping trip itself. Each stage of buying a gift becomes a scene. The company says the mix of whimsy, style and humor is something only Wayans could deliver.

In-house team ditches traditional agency.

Jay Guapo and Gio Ramos Join Marlon Wayans, With No Agency in the Room

Wayans is not alone on screen. TikTok creator Jay Guapo and model and stylist Gio Ramos complete the cast, a lineup SNIPES says bridges legacy, viral influence and fashion credibility. MediaPost reported that Guapo has more than 3.4 million TikTok fans. MediaPost Publications

The production story is the other selling point. SNIPES says its internal marketing team conceived, cast, executed and produced the campaign without outside agency support. The company calls that a departure from standard retail marketing and says the work was "made for Gen Z, not marketed at them."

Chief marketing officer Kelley Walton stated, "This campaign represents Snipes' commitment to breaking the mold and having fun with how we connect with our consumers." MediaPost Publications

According to MediaPost, the campaign runs across YouTube, TikTok, Meta and SNIPES.com, with digital out of home placements in New York, Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia.

Whether the approach moves product is not yet public. SNIPES has not released view counts, store traffic or sales figures for the campaign. With Wayans out front and the full in house team behind him, "Wrapped in Heat" will be judged on how the holiday season plays out.
