Five cities are set to get murals for one song, and the song is “Kiriki,” the new single from Ñengo Flow. According to his team, the track is out now on all digital platforms. The Puerto Rican rapper has been recording since 2004, and the rollout includes a video made with artificial intelligence.

Ñengo Flow grew up in Bayamón and built his reputation on street level reggaeton and rap. Complex placed him on its list of the 25 best reggaeton artists of all time, and his team has made that ranking central to this release. The write-up is more measured than the press materials. Complex wrote that he did not originate the malianteo subgenre but became one of its most important figureheads, a narrower claim than the “pioneer” label in his release. It also called his rhymes and swag “absurdly infectious.” Complex has noted his work with Bad Bunny on “Safaera” and “Qué Malo,” both from YHLQMDLG.

Ñengo Flow Leans on Classic Drums and Onyx Toca El Piano for “Kiriki”

Onyx Toca El Piano produced “Kiriki.” The release describes a track built on hard drum patterns and the snare hits that defined reggaeton’s early years, a throwback to a time when the music came straight out of Puerto Rico’s caseríos and rattled car speakers. The English version calls it gritty and rhythmic, written for fans of what it names the real reggaeton sound. In the Spanish version, the team frames the single as a declaration that “el reggaetón de la mata sigue vivo,” meaning the genre’s roots sound is still alive.

The release also ties the single to a birthday. It says “Kiriki” celebrates the artist’s birthday, and public biographies list that date as October 15, two days before the song came out.

The video is the odd piece. The team says it was created with artificial intelligence and places the rapper among luxury and power in surreal, cinematic settings, with bold color and futuristic environments built around the theme of abundance. A futuristic clip set to a back to basics beat is an unusual pairing. Longtime fans of the gritty sound will decide whether it works.

NengoFlow Five City Murals

Murals for Ñengo Flow Planned in Bayamón, Medellín, Lima, Buenos Aires and Santiago

Press materials say commemorative murals are being developed in five cities tied to his career: Bayamón, Medellín, Lima, Buenos Aires and Santiago. A photo supplied with the release shows the Bayamón piece at Residencial José Celso Barbosa. Bayamón is where he grew up, which makes it the natural starting point for a tribute the team says will travel. No unveiling dates were provided for the other four. The team describes the murals as tributes to his cultural and social impact in different communities.

The single follows a run of collaborations with Rauw Alejandro, Wisin and Kidd Voodoo, according to the release. The same document calls him a key figure in the Real G4 Life movement, a name he has also used for an album series. The English version adds that “Kiriki” teases upcoming solo projects.

No titles or dates for those projects have been announced. For now, “Kiriki” is a statement of direction. Many of reggaeton’s biggest names today came up after he did, and Ñengo Flow is answering with drums, rhymes and a wall in the city where he grew up. His next solo release will show whether this is a one off tribute or the start of a new chapter.
