Elle Fanning's new film arrives November 7 with a fresh take on the iconic alien hunters and their deadly culture.

Predator: Badlands hits theaters on November 7, starring Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi. The film has been generating buzz at comic cons worldwide, promising a new perspective on the Yautja. Before you see it, here's what you need to know about the lore that's been building since 1987.

The Yautja and Their Hunting Culture

Predators, officially called Yautja, come from the desert planet Yautja Prime. These aliens possess superhuman strength and have built their entire civilization around hunting the most dangerous creatures in the universe. It's their culture, their status system, and their reason for existing.

Weapons and the Honor Code

The Yautja arsenal includes a shoulder-mounted plasma cannon, spears, throwing discs, and a net that can slice through anything. Their thermal-vision mask can mimic voices, and they can become nearly invisible through camouflage technology.

But Predators aren't mindless killers. They follow a strict code: only hunt prey that can fight back. Children, pregnant women, elderly people, and anyone terminally ill are off-limits. Break this code, and you become "Bad Blood," a criminal among your own people.

Trophies and Status

After a successful hunt, Predators skin their prey. The real prize for worthy opponents is spine-and-skull removal. These trophies determine social rank within the clan. Predator 2 revealed that Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise are also hunted.

Notable Status and Weaknesses

Kill a Predator, and you earn "Notable" status, making you untouchable among the Yautja. Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) in Predator 2 and Alexa Woods (Sanaa Lathan) in Alien vs. Predator both earned this designation.

Despite their advanced technology, Predators have vulnerabilities. Their thermal vision can be blocked. Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) covered himself in mud to hide his body heat. In Prey, orange flowers that cool the blood also make prey invisible to detection.

What Badlands Promises

The official logline reads: "A young Predator outcast from his clan finds an unlikely ally on his journey in search of the ultimate adversary." This suggests we'll see Yautja culture from a different angle, exploring what happens to those who don't fit the rigid hunting hierarchy.

Predator: Badlands opens in theaters November 7.
