A PERFECT SUMMER DAY IN WYNWOOD: MIAMI’S ART DISTRICT

Wynwood, just north of Downtown Miami, is known for its street art, galleries, restaurants and shops. Once an industrial area filled with warehouses and factories, the neighborhood has evolved into one of Miami’s best-known cultural districts. A day here can combine a Miami Spice meal, a look at its graffiti and murals, and a stop for ice cream.

Miami Spice at KY

Wood-fired Asian flavors, celebrating expansion.

Celebrating its 10th year in business, KYU Miami is one of Wynwood’s established dining destinations. Its Asian-inspired, wood-fired menu includes popular dishes such as Crispy Tuna Rice and Korean Fried Chicken. The restaurant has since expanded beyond Miami, with locations in New York City, Las Vegas and,  recently, Los Angeles.

Prix-fixe dining, citywide celebration.

During Miami’s slower months of August and September, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau hosts Miami Spice Restaurant Months. Participating restaurants, ranging from Michelin-starred establishments to casual spots, offer prix-fixe menus at set prices. For 2026, the program includes three-course menus priced at $40 per person for lunch, $65 per person plus tax and gratuity for dinner, and $40 per person plus tax and gratuity for brunch. Some restaurants also offer specially priced beverage pairings.

Fried chicken, watermelon spritz special.

KYU is participating with separate Miami Spice menus for lunch, dinner and brunch. All three include its famed Korean Fried Chicken,  with chili butter and braised spinach, as an entrée option.

Each menu also offers the $16 Watermelon Weather Spritz, made with watermelon-infused Pegasus vodka, guava and Aperol.

Lunch and dinner guests can add a $25 wine pairing featuring three selections. Flowers Chardonnay from Sonoma is served with the first course, followed by Flowers Pinot Noir with the entrée. Michele Chiarlo Nivole, a lightly sparkling, sweet white wine, accompanies dessert. The brunch menu offers $25 bottomless mimosas or Bellinis.

Parties of six or more receive premium tableside upgrades and a complimentary cocktail.

Miso seabass, Szechuan ribeye options.

Other lunch entrées include Miso Seabass and Smoked Brisket with a trio of sauces and yuzu pickles. Dinner choices include a vegetarian Thai Rice Pot or Ribeye with Szechuan au Poivre and shishito peppers.

Dessert options include Coconut Cake with coconut ice cream and Dark Chocolate S’mores with banana-bourbon ice cream.

Savory brunch, sweet finishing options.

At brunch, savory second-course choices include Steak & Eggs and King Crab Benedict with yuzu hollandaise and herb slaw. For the final course, diners can choose a Japanese Pancake or a Cinnamon Roll glazed with black sugar and served with warm side of chai frosting.

Wynwood Street Art

Graffiti museum, iconic mural walls.

After your meal, a walk through Wynwood offers a chance to see some of the neighborhood’s defining artwork. Two nearby stops are the Museum of Graffiti and Wynwood Walls.

The Museum of Graffiti is dedicated to the history and evolution of graffiti art. Owned and operated by artists, the museum explores the connection between underground street culture and contemporary art through rotating exhibitions, local artist spotlights and multimedia installations.

Its collection also includes historical artifacts, including vintage spray-paint cans dating to the 1970s.

Global artists, ever-evolving murals.

Next door, Wynwood Walls is an open-air destination for contemporary urban art and muralism. Established in 2009, it helped establish Wynwood as an international street-art destination. More than 130 artists from 30 countries have painted at the site, and the collection continues to change as new artists are invited to contribute.

Artisan Ice Cream at Salt & Straw

Creative ice cream, monthly themes.

A stop at Salt & Straw provides a sweet finish to the afternoon. The ice cream shop offers its creative classic flavors year-round while also introducing monthly menus built around different themes.

Pie-inspired ice cream, five flavors.

During an August visit, the featured Summer Pies series turned familiar pie flavors into ice cream. The five selections included:

Peaches and Cream Galette – Fresh peach ice cream with pieces of peach galette and ribbons of peach pie filling.

Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie – Frozen yogurt with lemon chess pie, wildflower honey and housemade lemon curd.

Gruyère and Tomato Custard Tart – Salt-and-pepper custard ice cream with pieces of Gruyère cheese and tomato jam tart.

Coconut Cherry Pie with Almond Crust – A vegan option combining sour cherry pie filling and shortbread almond crust with coconut cream.

Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie – A returning favorite made with wild berry pie filling and pieces of double-baked pie crust folded into salted vanilla ice cream.

Year-round classics, indulgent chocolate flavors.

Favorite Salt & Straw flavors, available year-round, include Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Chocolate Gooey Brownies, and Salted, Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough -housemade cookie dough with thick malted fudge in a salted ice cream.
