Between Berlin and Paris, something unusual is happening in the world of film and visual storytelling. LIPSTICK, a hybrid creative studio founded in 2023 by German director Sebastian Strasser, is rewriting the rules by combining traditional filmmaking with AI-generated art, fashion aesthetics, and high-end VFX production. It’s not just a studio—it’s a space where directors, VFX artists, and AI creatives collaborate to shape the future of visual culture.
In a time when much of the industry leans into fast content and viral trends, LIPSTICK is doing the opposite. “We’re not building Go-Karts for TikTok clickbait,” says Strasser. “Our AI is more like a Formula One car—engineered for the speed, precision and competition of real advertising.”
From High Fashion to Major Brands
LIPSTICK’s creative roster reads like a who's who of new-generation visual artists. Recent collaborative works from its affiliated talents include:
- A surreal short for Daily Paper called Alien Luv by Folkert Verdoorn
- A nostalgic love letter to skate culture for Carhartt x Converse Cons by Natas3000
- The visually experimental Is There a Thought You Would Like to Share for Paula Canovas, directed by JB Braud
Other works include Vogue Scans by Arthur Valverde, and a teaser video for The Weeknd's São Paulo show by AI artist YZA Voku, whose work is also featured in LIPSTICK’s current gallery exhibition.
Commercial clients have tapped into LIPSTICK’s sharp creative vision too. The studio co-produced Renault Revolution, a hybrid VFX campaign, and Vodafone AI, one of the first brand films made entirely with generative AI artists.
AI Is Just the Beginning
LIPSTICK isn’t interested in AI for the buzz. It treats artificial intelligence as another tool in the creative kit—alongside cameras, color grading, and sound design. Its real focus is on how stories are shaped when the line between real and artificial gets blurry.
That mindset plays out in the studio’s current exhibitions and research initiatives, which explore themes like digital body language and post-human aesthetics. Artist YZA Voku stands out here, using fashion styling and surreal AI techniques to construct still images that are anything but still.
Selected Works Snapshot
LIPSTICK’s Selected Works portfolio includes pieces from a wide range of collaborators. Highlights include:
- “The Pulse Within” by Vallée Duhamel
- “Immortal” for Mercedes-Benz, directed by Sebastian Strasser
- “Land of Egypt” by Seif Abdalla
- Nike Spec Ad by Kavan the Kid
- “Rhythm of Life” for Vodafone, also by Strasser
Each of these projects reveals a different facet of the studio’s evolving identity—emotional, cinematic, often experimental, and always technically sharp.
Built for Creativity, Not Clicks
In a crowded creative landscape, LIPSTICK has carved out its niche by moving slow where others move fast and going deep where others stay surface-level. Their model blends cultural work with commercial execution, providing a place for experimentation that doesn’t forget its purpose: to communicate something that resonates.
With over 20 AI-trained artists on its extended roster and partnerships that include the Paris-based production powerhouse HENRY, LIPSTICK is positioned as a serious force in contemporary image-making.
