Häagen-Dazs and Vicky Bakery Just Made the Most Miami Dessert of the Year

Häagen-Dazs Shops and Vicky Bakery have teamed up on the Pastelito Dazzler, a limited-time dessert that combines premium vanilla ice cream with guava drizzle, crushed puff pastry from Vicky Bakery's signature pastelitos, and a finish of whipped cream and guava glaze. It's available now through March 31 at six Häagen-Dazs locations across South Florida, while supplies last.

If you grew up in Miami, the flavor combination probably already makes sense to you. If you didn't, consider this your introduction to two flavors that have coexisted in this city for decades finally ending up in the same bowl.

Guava pastelito meets vanilla ice.

What's in It

The Pastelito Dazzler was developed in partnership with Vicky Bakery executive chef Betsy Rivera. The build layers Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream with warm guava drizzle, buttery crushed puff pastry pulled from actual Vicky Bakery pastelitos, and a cloud of whipped cream on top with another hit of guava glaze to finish it off.

The pastry component is what makes it work. Crushing a pastelito into an ice cream sundae sounds simple, but the flaky, buttery texture against cold ice cream and warm guava sauce is the kind of thing that makes sense the moment you taste it. Rivera and the Häagen-Dazs team apparently knew what they were doing.

Two South Florida Originals

Vicky Bakery has been part of Miami since 1972. Founded by Antonio and Gelasia Cao, Cuban exiles who met while working at one of Havana's most well-known bakeries, the brand started as a small shop and has grown to over 30 locations across Florida. The pastelito recipe has been passed down through generations and remains the product the brand is best known for. At this point, Vicky Bakery isn't just a bakery. It's a piece of Miami's cultural fabric.

Häagen-Dazs Shops have been around since 1976, starting in Brooklyn and expanding to over 200 franchised locations across the country. The South Florida shops have built their own community presence over the years, and the Dazzler sundae format, which the Pastelito Dazzler is a riff on, is one of their signature formats.

Putting these two together wasn't a stretch. As Adam Hanson, President of Häagen-Dazs Shops, put it, the partnership was a natural fit for celebrating the flavors that define South Florida.

Where to Get It

The Pastelito Dazzler is only available through March 31, only at six locations, and only while supplies last. That's three reasons not to wait on it.

The participating Häagen-Dazs Shops are River Landing in Miami, Causeway Square in North Miami, Town and Country Mall in Kendall, Wingate Shopping Center in Miami Lakes, Shops at Pembroke Gardens in Pembroke Pines, and Miracle Mile in Coral Gables.

One week, six spots, guava on everything. South Florida, this one was made for you.
