Cartier just reopened its regional flagship boutique in Miami's Design District after a complete redesign and expansion. Located at 147 NE 39th Street, the store now offers the full spectrum of Cartier's collections, from jewelry and fine jewelry to watches, leather goods, fragrance, and accessories. The new space reflects Miami's character: constantly evolving, culturally rich, and focused on standout experiences.
The Design District location makes sense for a brand like Cartier. The neighborhood has become a destination for luxury retail and contemporary art, attracting both locals and international visitors looking for high-end shopping in a walkable, design-focused environment.

The Facade Makes a Statement
Architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, which has worked with Cartier before, designed the exterior. The wraparound facade uses undulating glass with an etched pattern adapted from a 1909 Cartier brooch. Elizabeth Diller, Founding Partner at the firm, explained the concept: "We conceived the wraparound façade in undulating glass to draw in passersby while knitting together the store and the street."
The etched pattern creates a semi-transparent effect. You can see into the store from outside, but the interior maintains a sense of privacy and intrigue. It's an approach that connects the boutique to the street while still feeling exclusive.

Inside, Miami Takes Over
Interior designer Laura Gonzalez handled the boutique's interior, pulling directly from Miami's natural environment and cultural mix. The space incorporates references to the city's palm trees, mangroves, and ocean life, elements that also show up in Cartier's own design history.
A seashell-inspired staircase connects the floors. The ground level features organic shapes and bright colors, while the first floor has leaf motifs that climb up columns to the ceiling. The design builds as you move through the space, ending at an outdoor roof terrace with plants and colorful tiles.

Three Distinct Atmospheres
Gonzalez designed each area with a different mood in mind. "I imagined the store as a sensory journey," she said. "Each space evokes a different emotion: vitality and movement at the entrance, intimacy in the VIP lounges on the first floor, conviviality on the terrace with its welcoming, custom-made wavy benches."
The progression takes shoppers from the energetic ground floor through more private spaces upstairs, finishing at the terrace where the Miami climate becomes part of the experience. Custom wavy benches on the rooftop add a sculptural element that matches the building's curved facade.

Reflecting Miami's Energy
Both the architecture and interior design reference Cartier's archive while connecting to Miami's specific identity. The 1909 brooch pattern on the glass, the tropical motifs inside, and the outdoor terrace all tie back to the city's reputation as a place where luxury, art, and natural beauty overlap.
The boutique operates Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
