At just nineteen, singer-songwriter Joaquina has quickly become a standout in the Latin pop scene. She made history as the youngest ever recipient of the Best New Artist award at the Latin Grammy Awards and earned a nomination for Best Singer-Songwriter. Drawing inspiration from legendary English and Spanish artists, renowned poets, and her own bi-cultural immigrant experience, Joaquina is recognized as a voice for her generation. Her latest single and video, "Pesimista," is set for release this evening at 8:00 PM ET.

"Pesimista": Love, Fear, Distance

The Making of "Pesimista"

"Pesimista" was co-produced by Julio Reyes Copello and Larry Coll. Joaquina wrote the song during an extended stay in Madrid, capturing the emotions of a young woman afraid of losing a long-distance love and the emptiness of not sharing new experiences with them. Joaquina explains, "This song is essentially a love song that speaks to having something so special to the point in which you’re scared to lose it. It’s about being far from the person you love and wishing they were experiencing everything with you. The hook at the end of the chorus says, 'I'm not a pessimist, but if I were to lose you, it would break me to pieces.'"

Visuals and Collaborations

The visuals accompanying "Pesimista" reflect Joaquina's passion for immersive reading, with books prominently featured in the cover art and video. The video co-stars award-winning Spanish actor Jorge Motos, enhancing the narrative's emotional depth.

Upcoming Performances

Joaquina has been invited to perform as a special guest at the British Summer Time Hyde Park series on July 5th. She will join Andrea Bocelli and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, celebrating Bocelli's 30th career anniversary. The event will also feature performances by Hans Zimmer, Seal, Matteo Bocelli, and more, with Joaquina being the sole Latin music artist in the lineup.

Recent Achievements

Joaquina's recent accomplishments are impressive. She sold out her first shows in Spain and Mexico and received another Best New Artist nomination for July's Premios Heat event. Spotify recognized her as a member of the "RADAR Latin America Class of 2024," highlighting her as a rising star breaking barriers and reaching a global audience. Her debut EP, Los Mejores Años (Notas de Diario), earned her the Best New Artist award at the 2023 Latin Grammys, showcasing her talent through poetic pop-rock reflections on heartbreak, rage, and teen angst.

A Promising Future

Venezuela-born and Miami-raised, Joaquina is a leading force in the Latin music scene. Her heartfelt lyrics and powerful voice have captivated audiences, including collaborations with artists like Juanes. According to HITS Daily Double, "With her debut release, which highlights her vocal prowess and lyricism, Joaquina has become a leading force in the Latin music scene."
