Karol G just dropped the music video for "Ivonny Bonita," a fan-favorite track from her critically acclaimed album "Tropicoqueta." Directed by Carolina Giraldo, Pedro Artola, and STILLZ, and produced by Bichota Films, the video takes a symbolic approach to self-liberation and inner power.
The visual shows Karol G in a dark, misty forest where chains represent the limitations holding her back. Through fluid, liberating movement, she breaks free and connects with a higher version of herself, using self-expression as the pathway to reclaiming her strength. The video ends with her emerging from flames as a fierce, untamed presence radiating raw energy.
The Meaning Behind Ivonny
During the broadcast of "La PremiEre," Karol G explained the personal significance of the track. "I don't often stop to celebrate the woman within me who's carried everything. The one who fights silent battles no one ever sees. The one who's felt she couldn't go on, yet somehow always does. The one who's held my hand when no one else could and has shown me what I'm made of. Her name is Ivonny, but she isn't just mine."
She continued: "I believe we all have our own version of her, a force that rises when everything else falls apart, a small light that reminds us who we truly are. Today, I want you to celebrate yours. Embrace her, listen to her, recognize her, applaud her. Remember how powerful you are. Don't dim yourselves out of fear of feeling, and don't let yourselves fall without first looking at who you are with love and tenderness."
The message positions Ivonny not just as Karol G's personal alter ego, but as a universal symbol for the resilient inner self that everyone carries.
Following "La PremiEre" Global Event
The video release follows "La PremiEre," a Bichota Films production that expanded the "Tropicoqueta" universe through an immersive visual experience. The nearly 50-minute production took a year to create, featuring 12 reimagined tracks from the album with new arrangements and special guest appearances.
"La PremiEre" brought together iconic Latin cultural figures, including Blue Demon Jr., Lyn May, La Tigresa del Oriente, and Brazilian vedette Valeria Valensa, with legendary host Don Francisco introducing the production. The global event aired simultaneously across more than 40 countries, reaching millions of viewers.
A Year-Long Production Process
Filming took place across Mexico City, Los Angeles, Cartagena, and Medellín. While the album was rolling out earlier this year, Karol G was simultaneously developing the concept, storyline, and execution of the audiovisual project. The result is what she describes as an unprecedented tribute to both "Tropicoqueta" and Latin culture.
Standout moments from "La PremiEre" included a live vallenato ensemble, a 57-piece orchestra, and a particularly emotional segment for "Coleccionando Heridas." More than 200 fans participated in that portion, sharing personal stories of healing during an unplugged session with Karol G and Marco Antonio Solís at the historic Estudios Churubusco in Mexico City.
Celebrating "Tropicoqueta" Visually
The "Ivonny Bonita" video and "La PremiEre" production both demonstrate how Karol G has extended the "Tropicoqueta" era beyond the album itself. Rather than just promoting individual singles, she's built out an entire visual and conceptual world around the music, using cinema-quality production to elevate the cultural significance of the project.
The focus on healing, self-recognition, and inner strength runs through both the album and its accompanying visuals. "Ivonny Bonita" captures that theme in its most direct form, turning an internal battle into a visual narrative about breaking free from self-imposed limitations.
"Tropicoqueta" is available on all digital streaming platforms.
