Montreux Jazz Festival Launches First Miami Edition with JR's Artistic Flair

In a striking blend of art and music, the celebrated Montreux Jazz Festival and the internationally acclaimed artist JR have together revealed the official poster for the festival's first-ever Miami edition. This collaboration showcases a segment of JR's "The Chronicles of Miami," a captivating artwork that was fully revealed in December 2023, marking a significant fusion of visual art and musical celebration.

JR's "The Chronicles of Miami": A Reflection of Community

"The Chronicles of Miami" emerged from JR's exploration across ten historic neighborhoods in Miami in November 2022. This project ambitiously captures the essence of over 1,000 residents and visitors, immortalizing them in murals spread across two locations in Miami. For the Miami edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival, the poster features a carefully chosen section of these murals, celebrating the city's vibrant culture with images of musicians, dancers, and a diverse group of Miami inhabitants.

A History of Collaboration

JR's relationship with the Montreux Jazz Festival dates back to his commission in 2020 to design the festival's poster, an edition ultimately postponed due to global health concerns. "I am thrilled to finally join the storied list of artists who design the official poster for Montreux Jazz Festival, and even more so for the inaugural Miami edition," JR expressed. His enthusiasm reflects the festival's tradition of embracing a wide range of musical genres and talent, a sentiment mirrored in JR's inclusive artwork.

Montreux Jazz Festival: A Miami Debut

Audiences can expect performances from Jon Batiste, Daryl Hall, Daniela Mercury, The Wailers, Seu Jorge, Cimafunk, Emily Estefan, among others, showcasing the festival's commitment to diverse musical expressions.

The Montreux Jazz Festival, with its origins in Switzerland, has a storied tradition of collaborating with iconic artists like Keith Haring, David Bowie, and Andy Warhol to design its posters.
