Sam Koechlin, a Swiss-born, Gotham-raised indie rocker, has recently teamed up with longtime collaborator and "Second Beatle" Daniel Schlett (Iggy Pop, The War on Drugs), as well as mastering engineer Greg Calbi (David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen). Never Let Me Go gleams with the hope of a world that is about to reopen, one whose studios, stages, and dance floors we will finally get to share once more – or lose at any second.
“Suspended between faith and fear, hope and its opposite, Never Let Me Go is equal parts plea and reckoning in more than name” says Koechlin.
The music video for the song "Heartland," which appears on the album, features road footage that has been collaged to represent this happy, nervous return to togetherness.
Mr. Rocknroll (Nov. 11), Golden Days (Sept. 16), and Never Let Me Go (July 22), the album's title track, gave listeners a taste of what to expect from the "King of Tears'" (Radiotélévision Suisse) sophomore effort. They described it as a soundtrack for the first day after what appeared to be the last, fuelled by the joy of newfound personal connections and the excitement of going back on the road with his band, and a (KEXP). The two-time Swiss Music Award nominee's debut LP, which was released in 2021, addressed the depressing, alone period it was created during.
After wrapping up a busy 2022 with his second collaboration with the Basel Symphony Orchestra, Sam recently announced the first leg of his European Tour in early 2023, confirming stops in Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg, and Zurich, with more to follow (including a string of US dates this spring and several European festival shows in the summer).
