Mexican-American singer Chiquis is back with a new music video, and this one doesn’t shy away from speaking its mind. The three-time Latin GRAMMY winner just released “Amor Propio,” a banda track that delivers a pointed message to people wrapped up in ego and appearances. Her new video leans into this theme with symbolic imagery, all set in a country-style backdrop just outside Los Angeles.
“Amor Propio” Isn’t Just a Love Song
Although the title translates to “self-love,” this track goes deeper than affirmations. According to Chiquis, it’s a call-out to those who’ve let pride and superficiality take the wheel. “It’s a direct message to those who’ve lost their way chasing appearances and ego,” she said. She also shared how much thought went into using visual metaphors to match the weight of the lyrics.
Who Helped Bring It All Together
The single comes from her latest album Diamantes VVS1 and was written by a collaborative group of creators: Luciano Luna, Laura Crias, Agua Tinta, Ulises Lozano “El Licenciado,” and Richard Bull. The video was directed by Austin Simkins and Emilio Sanchez, both known for blending cinematic visuals with music storytelling. The setting—rural, open, and quietly powerful—adds to the message without distracting from it.
A Glimpse Into Diamantes VVS1
“Amor Propio” is one of 18 tracks on Diamantes VVS1. The album pulls in material from Chiquis’ Latin GRAMMY-nominated album Diamantes and adds four new songs. There’s also a surprise intro message meant to spark feelings of empowerment and self-acceptance, plus a special cover of Laura Pausini’s “Volveré Junto a Ti” and an interlude called “Ágape” that continues the album’s self-love thread.
With this project, Chiquis seems more focused than ever on blending powerful messages with catchy banda sounds—and doing it on her own terms.
