Dear Everything, described as “a musical uprising for the Earth,” is heading out on tour across the U.S. this fall. Created by Tony Award-winning writer V (formerly Eve Ensler), this production blends storytelling, powerful vocals, and a message that cuts deep—climate action can’t wait.
After a sold-out preview performance in New York earlier this year, the show is set to visit Miami Beach, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City, starting September 28, 2025.
The Story Behind the Sound
This isn’t your average musical. Dear Everything weaves emotional pop and folk music into a narrative that confronts today’s climate emergency. It explores the tension between generations—adults trying to manage the present, while young people carry the weight of what’s ahead.
The creative team is stacked with award-winning talent:
- V (formerly Eve Ensler) – Writer and activist known for The Vagina Monologues
- Diane Paulus – Tony-winning director
- Justin Tranter – Grammy-nominated songwriter
- Caroline Pennell & Eren Cannata – Songwriters and producers
- Idina Menzel – Contributor and Broadway icon
- Daniel Crean – Orchestrator
The result is a show that blends storytelling with music that sparks urgency and connection.
Not Just a Show—A Movement
Dear Everything goes beyond the stage. It aims to activate audiences by highlighting youth voices, inviting real participation, and centering local communities in each stop.
Each performance will feature a local youth choir as the “Earth Choir.” These teens (ages 13–18) are placed at the center of the production, both musically and symbolically. Participating groups include the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, Rise Up Children’s Choir, and Youth Theatre at the U in Salt Lake City. Many past choir members have since become active in climate advocacy after performing.
Youth Voices Lead the Way
Maya Penn, a filmmaker, climate activist, and V-Day board member, is leading the Dear Everything Youth Council, engaging young local activists in each city. Youth participants will be given space to speak, table for their causes, and even contribute to an on-site art exhibit. Maya also designed the show’s artwork.
The presence of youth is essential, not decorative. They are at the center of both the story and the real-world organizing the show aims to support.
From Theater to Climate Action
Produced by V-Day, the global anti-violence movement founded by V, and developed in association with the American Repertory Theater at Harvard, Dear Everything continues the tradition of using art to challenge cultural silence. It’s V-Day’s first climate-focused artistic work, branching out from its legacy of gender justice activism.
V herself calls the show “an homage to youth activists fighting for our futures.” Director Diane Paulus adds, “This musical builds community—it connects people to each other and to the planet.”
