Art Basel’s arrival in Doha marks a significant new chapter for both the global art world and the Qatari capital. The inaugural Art Basel Qatar becomes the fair’s fifth international edition, positioning Doha as a key cultural destination in the Middle East. Held in 2026, from February 5–7, the fair is part of a larger city-wide program that places art, design, and creativity at the center of the travel experience.
Curated by Egyptian artist Wael Shawky, the inaugural edition is built around the theme “Becoming,” which explores change, identity, and the intersection of tradition with contemporary and digital culture. The open-format exhibition moves beyond conventional booth layouts, encouraging visitors to engage more deeply with artworks and ideas. With more than half of the participating artists and many galleries coming from the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, the fair offers a strong regional focus alongside leading international galleries.
The inaugural edition of Art Basel Qatar will be held at M7, a startup hub for local fashion, design and tech entrepreneurs in the heart of Doha, as well as at the Doha Design District in downtown Msheireb.
Downtown Doha is Qatar's innovative, sustainable regeneration of a historic district, blending traditional Qatari architecture with smart city technology for a modern urban hub. Accessible via Doha's metro, Msheireb features pedestrian-friendly streets, various dining/shopping options, and cultural sites like the National Museum of Qatar. Newly built, the National Museum has been integrated into the Old Amiri Palace which was built around the time Qatar gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century.
As Art Basel arrives in Doha, the city presents itself as a destination where contemporary culture, design, and hospitality intersect. For visitors arriving for the fair, Doha’s leading luxury hotels offer more than a place to stay.

THE NED DOHA
At the center of this moment is The Ned Doha, housed in the former Ministry of Interior building and reimagined by David Chipperfield Architects. Its art-filled interiors, gardens, and dining spaces reflect a thoughtful balance of 1970s modernism and Qatari design, making it a natural gathering point for collectors and creatives during Art Basel. With a strong focus on regional artists and a location close to the fair’s main venues, The Ned anchors Doha’s cultural energy with quiet confidence.

THE ST. REGIS DOHA
Along the Arabian Gulf, The St. Regis Doha delivers a more classic expression of luxury, pairing a private beach and world-class dining with views of the sea and Pearl Island. From the Riviera-inspired Vilebrequin La Plage to the Guerlain Spa and renowned restaurants such as Hakkasan and Novikov, the hotel captures Doha’s coastal glamour.

THE ST. REGIS MARSA ARABIA ISLAND - THE PEARL QATAR
Just across the water, The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island at The Pearl offers a resort-style counterpoint, where marina views, Andalusian-inspired design, and an advanced wellness focus create a refined island escape. Together, these properties frame Doha as a city where art, leisure, and global sophistication come together seamlessly.
