Sebas Bárcenas released his debut album, DE LA Z5 PARA EL MUNDO, on September 10. The second song on it is seven years old.

He wrote "PSICOSIS" at 18 and kept it off everything he put out after that.

"I waited for so long because for me, it's one of the most special songs that I ever made," the Guatemalan singer and songwriter told FAME. "I knew that song had to be released in a moment that I felt it was necessary. So it was this year that we decided that the album was gonna be dropped, and I knew this song had to be on the album."

Bárcenas has been building toward this since a 2022 single called "La Canción Que Llora" circulated widely enough to get him signed to Sony Music Central America and the Caribbean in 2023. His team says he was the first Guatemalan artist on the label.

The Premios Estela named him Breakthrough Artist in 2025. This year he landed in the New Generation Male Artist category on Billboard's list of Premios Juventud nominees, his first international nomination.

Zona 5

The Z5 is Zona 5, the district of Guatemala City where Bárcenas grew up and where most of his family still lives. Asked what people get wrong about it, he skipped the landmarks.

"Probably there's many people in La Zona 5 that it's really beautiful," he said. "For me, all the neighborhood is beautiful because every person there has a different vibe. Everyone is a person fighting for their family. Everyone is like on the same page as you."

The album is not a tour of the neighborhood. It is 13 songs by someone who learned there that everyone around him was carrying something.

The seven years in between

The rest of the tracklist runs on the same logic as "PSICOSIS." According to the album announcement, "Hoy Te Vi" was written minutes after he ran into an ex, and "K DEBO HACER" deals with choosing his career over a relationship. The focus track, "Nada Es Igual," is a ballad about the guilt that arrives when moving on actually works.

Asked what the climb cost him, Bárcenas answered twice. The first answer was his head.

"It could be maybe my mentality with life, because it was on a really hard moment of my life when it all happened," he said. "And that gave me like a sense of life."

The second one landed harder.

"Maybe my innocence," he said. "When you begin growing up, you have to have a more private life. So I know there's a couple of things that probably I will need to mature, but not too much."

DE LA Z5 PARA EL MUNDO is out now on every streaming platform. It closes on "La Canción Que Llora," the song that got him the deal. Everything between that track and "PSICOSIS" was written in the seven years those two songs bracket.
