Farruko opened the show. Then he won the award. The Puerto Rican artist kicked off the 2026 Premios Juventud with a seven-minute production number and closed the night holding the trophy for Best Dance Track, giving him the rare double of setting the tone for a historic ceremony and taking home one of its most competitive prizes.
The 23rd edition of Premios Juventud left the Americas for the first time in the show's history, moving from its usual rotation of U.S. and Latin American cities to the Starlite Auditorium, a roughly 2,200-seat amphitheater carved into a former quarry in the hills above Marbella. Every previous edition had taken place in the United States, with the exception of last year's ceremony in Panama City, making the Spanish stop a notable expansion for a franchise built around Latin youth culture. Farruko arrived as one of the night's most nominated acts, with six nominations spread across the evening's categories. Andaluci Los 60 principales

Farruko Traces His Electronic Turn in One Opening Set
The opening segment moved through three distinct chapters of Farruko's recent pivot toward dance music. He performed "Marbella Nights," the ceremony's official theme song, alongside Juan Magán, before shifting into "YAPAQUE" with Greeicy. The set closed with the first television performance of "MADRID," a new single the artist has described as the start of a longer sonic phase rather than a one-off experiment. The full medley ran more than seven minutes, built around a large dance corps and a stage production with heavy lighting and effects. For the performance, Farruko wore a trench coat from MEADOWS by Andre Salomon, styled with accessories from GARCIAS.
"MADRID" itself arrived on streaming platforms in late August, days before the ceremony, giving the Marbella performance the feel of a coordinated rollout rather than a standalone showcase. The song leans further into the synth-heavy, afrobeats-inflected production Farruko has been building toward since "Pepas" turned him into a fixture of Latin dance playlists in 2021.
"YAPAQUE" Gives Farruko His 14th Latin Airplay Number One
The Best Dance Track win capped a chart run that started quietly. "YAPAQUE" debuted during Steve Aoki's set at Ultra Music Festival in Miami in March and bowed at No. 43 on Billboard's Latin Airplay chart in May before climbing to No. 1 ten weeks later, according to Billboard. The chart-topper marked Farruko's 14th career No. 1 on Latin Airplay and the first for both Greeicy and Aoki on that chart, while also giving Aoki's label its own milestone. The judges' pick lines up with the commercial data. Univision, which is producing this year's ceremony, had already flagged "YAPAQUE" ahead of the show as one of the summer's defining Latin dance records. The win also reflects a broader shift in where Farruko's collaborators are coming from. Pairing a reggaeton veteran with a colombian pop singer and a globally touring EDM DJ is not a conventional trio for a Latin awards category, and the combination's chart performance suggests the format has room to keep growing.
Farruko's night in Marbella lands at a point where his catalog is splitting into two clear lanes: the reggaeton foundation that built his career and the dance floor material that now dominates his new releases. With "MADRID" freshly out and Premios Juventud validating the direction with its top dance honor, the next test is whether that European pivot holds up across a full project rather than a run of singles.
